History: Michael Acer ran away from home after
using his emerging mutant powers to injure his abusive step-father.
Finding himself living rough on the streets and using his powers to
enable him to commit petty crimes, Ace joined a gang of mutant criminals
led by Rage, the son of Sabretooth. The group gained a formidable
reputation, but alarmed by the level of violence used by some of the
group Ace turned informer, phoning in an anonymous tip which led to
Rage being arrested. Ace also turned the Dwarf in to the authorities
for murder. Following his release, Rage, who was unaware that Ace
had been responsible for his arrest briefly returned but later abandoned
the gang who went their separate ways. Ace, now on the run, drifted,
trying to keep a low profile. During this time it is known that he
spent some time hiding in the sewers with his former team mate Vermin.
Eventually Ace was captured after he demolished two buildings for
a bet. Ace was imprisoned in the Vault, the US Government’s
high security prison for super-powered criminals.
Ace remained in prison until attacks on cities by the Diabolo gang
led to the government forming the first Wildcards team. Three mutant
prisoners including Ace, were selected to infiltrate the Diabolos.
Ace agreed to take part in the mission in return for a full pardon.
The mission was a success, but at a cost. Ace was injured and the
rest of the team were killed.
Ace was taken to the mansion belonging to Professor Charles Xavier,
where one of Xavier’s students, Jade Logan a.k.a. Anodyne, healed
his injuries. During his convalescence in the mansion, Ace and Jade
became close friends, and he continued to associate with her and her
father Wolverine for some time.
Ace was then recruited by President Rogers to head up a new team of
Wildcards, this time acting as government agents dealing with mutant
criminals. Ace recruited his old friend Sight with his vampire companion
Nocturne and was given a reprogrammed Sentinel Paladin Unit (see Sentinel-1).
The team was later joined by Hotshot. The new Wildcards were engaged
in a number of battles against Rage’s gang and a vampire coven
based in New Orleans. It seems likely that there were other missions
which have not yet been reported.
Finally the team was disbanded following a plot by Mystique and her
allies the Changelings to frame them for the murder of the President.
Ace was betrayed by Hotshot and was imprisoned. |
