Strength Level: The Arachnid possesses superhuman
strength, and can lift/press approximately 10 tons.
Known Superhuman Powers: The Arachnid possesses
a number of superhuman abilities which are derived from his mutation.
In addition to his superhuman strength, the spider is superhumanly
fast and agile, and is more resistant to injury than a normal human
being. His fingers end in long claws which he can use both as weapons
and to climb. He can climb sheer surfaces by digging the claws in.
He has fangs which can inject poison, which can paralyse a normal
human in seconds. Given time he can generate webs. Richard Reston
can transform into the Arachnid by drinking a small quantity of the
Spider Queen's poison. The duration of time that he stays in his spider
form varies depending on the quantity of poison he consumes, but as
he generally stays in spider-form for three hours it has been theorised
that to drink more than his usual dose would be harmful to him.
Abilities/Special Skills:As the Arachnid, Richard
Reston's intelligence is substantially reduced and he acts primarily
on instinct. As such he employs no special skills or abilities in
this state.
Weapons Used: None, other than his natural claws
and fangs. |

Personality: Richard Reston is an embittered
man who believes that his life has been destroyed by the actions of
other people. He has not even considered that he might be responsible
for his situation, preferring to believe that people are out to get
him, keeping him down and preventing him from achieving his goals.
As the Arachnid, his personality is subverted by his instincts, but
he is still driven by bitterness and revenge.
Personal Interests: Richard Reston's life has
fallen apart and he is consumed by his desire for revenge. He devoted
his time to serving the Spider Queen, but now that his lies have been
exposed, he has fled.
History: Richard Reston was a line maintenance
engineer for the London Underground rail company who lost his job
when a new company took over management. This was closely followed
by a series of disasters in his private life, culminating in his wife
leaving him and his losing custody of his children. Blaming this on
losing his job, Reston built a bomb and entered the underground tunnels,
intending to sabotage the tracks and ruin the company that had fired
him. Before he could activate the bomb, Reston fell through a weakened
section of track and found himself in a network of tunnels inhabited
by the Spider Queen. Reston found out that the Queen was hiding, believing
that the immortal mutant Apocalypse ruled the surface. Reston, knowing
that Apocalypse was believed dead, managed to convince the Queen that
he could be of use to her, as her agent on the surface without attracting
Apocalypse's attention. The Queen turned Reston into the Arachnid
and dispatched him to bring her more victims. Reston began by bringing
her members of the board of the new Underground Company, but in doing
so was drawn into a fight with the costumed adventurer Spitfire. Spitfire
and the psychic private investigator Matthew Buckingham found Reston's
flat and captured him in his human form. Reston promised to help them
stop the Spider Queen but lured Spitfire into a trap. Here his plans
fell apart as Spitfire exposed his deception about Apocalypse and
Reston was forced to flee for his life. His current whereabouts are
unknown. |
