Personality: Carpenter wants the respect of
his peers, and if he can’t get their respect, he’ll
settle for their cash. However his efforts to make a name for himself
are frustrated time and again by the fact that each name he chooses
has already been used.
Personal Interests: Unknown.
History: Little has been revealed about Birdman’s
past, other than his encounters with Spitfire. In each case, Spitfire
has apprehended him in the act of a petty crime, but has let him
go. Carpenter promised to ‘go straight’ and give up
crime, but finding it difficult to secure a steady job, sold the
designs for his Birdman suit to Martin Corvus, an unscrupulous businessman
and failed applicant to join the Inner Circle of the British Hellfire
Club. Corvus adapted and improved on Carpenter’s design, then
mass produced the suit, outfitting an entire army of flying soldiers
who he called the Stormcrows. Corvus sent his men to capture Carpenter,
in an effort to prevent him from alerting the authorities and also
so that they could continue to exploit his technical knowledge.
Corvus’ scheme was foiled by Spitfire, who rescued Carpenter.
Since this
time Carpenter has been offered employment by the Ministry of Defence
and has officially given up his Birdman alter-ego. He has occasionally
assisted Spitfire, and used his costume again to help fight off
demons attacking a hospital during the Hell on Earth event.
