Strength Level: Possesses the normal strength of a man his age who engages in regular exercise. However he can propel objects weighing more than a ton with his powers.
Known Superhuman Powers: Cannonball possesses the ability to bodily generate thermo-chemical energy and release it from his skin. This energy, released by an act of will, is accompanied by smoke, flame and condensation, much like the exhaust of a rocket engine. The equal and opposite reaction to this thrust causes his body to be propelled through the air like a human rocket. As a side effect of forming the thermo-chemical energies over the surface of his body, Cannonball becomes virtually invulnerable. Accompanying the release of energy is a half-inch thick energy field which channels the explosion and protects his skin from the direct effects of the blast. It also negates momentum and related energy effects thereby cushioning his entire body from any impact up to a half-minute from the depletion of his energy. Not only is he protected from rough landings, but he is also protected from nearly all types of injury while in flight. The protective field also protects any person or object with which he is in physical contact.

Next-X History: Unlike most of the X-Men and their families Cannonball didn't immediately return home. He stayed in New York City for a time and literally ran into the woman who would become his wife and mother of his daughter Samantha. He was walking through Central Park debating his next move when he stepped in Lindsay Roberts way as she was jogging. He apologized and offered to buy her a cup of coffee, which she accepted. They eventually were married and while he wasn't prepared to return home to Cumberland and his huge family Sam missed the mountains. The couple moved to Gatlinburg. For many years the doctors told Sam that he and Lindsay would never be able to have children because of a defect in Sam's DNA. So they were both overjoyed when they learned Lindsay was pregnant. Sadly their daughter was born with Muscular Dystrophy. Sam asked for the help of his old friend and teammate Beast and Beast referred the family to his son Richard. All of this put a strain on what was becoming a more and more distant relationship and when Samantha first showed signs of mutant power Lindsay divorced Sam. To make it easier to get treatment for his daughter Sam took an offer from Angel to become the curator of the Xavier museum and he and Sammy still live there today.
