History:
Jacqueline Falsworth was the daughter of Lord Montgomery Falsworth, who had been the costumed hero Union Jack during World War One. During an air raid attack on London in World War Two, Jacqueline was attacked by Baron Blood, the Nazi vampire. She was rescued by the original Human Torch, who drove the vampire off. Jacqueline invited the Torch and his team, the Invaders, to dinner at the Falsworth Mansion. Lord Falsworth told them about his career as Union Jack and volunteered the use of his mansion as a base of operations for the Invaders.
Jacqueline and her father were later captured by a Nazi spy operation which the Invaders had been fighting. Jacqueline was again bitten by the Nazi vampire, Baron Blood, who revealed himself to be her uncle. The Invaders saved Jacqueline and her father, but Jacqueline had been drained of a lot of blood by Baron Blood. Jacqueline was rushed to a hospital, and received a blood transfusion from the original Human Torch. She soon discovered that the transfusion of the Torch's android blood, plus the foreign enzymes introduced into her bloodstream by Baron Blood's bite, combined to give her super-human speed. The hospital she was at was suddenly invaded by a Nazi agent in battle armour, called the Blue Bullet who was looking for the Invaders. Jacqueline used her new powers to save the weakened Torch and to help the other Invaders defeat the Blue Bullet.
Jacqueline made herself a costume and called herself Spitfire, after the British fighter plane of the same name. She joined the Invaders, and stayed with them until the end of the war, when she retired. By 1950, her super powers had completely disappeared. In 1956, Jacqueline married an English nobleman, Lord Crichton. Her husband died sometime after they had a son, Kenneth. She then moved back into Falsworth Manor, to look after her ill father.
In more recent years, Baron Blood returned to haunt Jacqueline and her family. Lord Falsworth called the hero and former Invader Captain America for help. With the aide of the current incarnation of Union Jack, Captain America was able to destroy Baron Blood, beheading the vampire with his shield, although Jacqueline's father died of an heart attack during the final confrontation. Captain America was aided in battling the vampire by Jacqueline's son Joey Chapman, who assumed the identity of Union Jack. Initially, Jacqueline disapproved of Chapman's lower class standing, although she did not stop him from continuing his crime-fighting career, and eventually grew to accept him as a willing successor to his father's legacy.
Later, Jacqueline helped assemble Namorita, Captain America and Union Jack to aid the former Invaders, the original Human Torch and Prince Namor the Sub-Mariner, who were captured by the latest incarnation of the Nazi villain, Master Man. In attempting to rescue their ally, Jacqueline was mortally wounded. After another emergency blood transfusion from the android Human Torch, Jacqueline's metabolism returned to super human levels and her Spitfire powers have reactivated. A side effect of her returning powers caused her to become young again, but although her body originally reverted to that of a sixteen year old, she has aged more rapidly as her natural immune system rejects the Human Torch’s blood. She currently appears to be in her mid to late sixties, and her super-speed has diminished, although she can still use it for short bursts of speed.
Recently, Lady Falsworth learned that another superhuman was using the name Spitfire, and travelled to London to meet Carrie Conway, becoming involved in the new heroine’s battle with the mercenaries Airstrike and Bakoone. Initially unwilling to let Carrie use her old name, Falsworth was impressed by Carrie’s bravery and relented. Recently she has assisted Spitfire by giving her friends shelter from the Hellfire Club, and in gathering evidence which helped her break free of the Club’s influence.
