Next-X History:
Following his return to earth from a parallel dimension, Havok re-joined the X-Men, and was deeply disillusioned when Xavier finally disbanded the team. He drifted for a bit, and tried to sort out his life. He had lead an active and relatively non-stop life for many years, and he couldn’t find a way to slow down. During his travels, he went to Genosha to visit his old team-mate/girlfriend, Polaris. He was slightly depressed and confused that she had married one of the X-Men’s greatest enemies, Magneto, and he was skeptical of the man’s apparent change of heart concerning world domination. However, after touring the island and seeing how the nation had been rebuilt, he couldn’t help being impressed. That, plus the fact that Magneto himself had seemed to mellow with age and marriage convinced Havok to stay on the island for a while.
During his vacation a group of subversive militants started a riot. Fearing that a civil war might break out, Alex was escorted to the American Embassy where he was told to keep a low profile. He hated being shut out of the situation, but reluctantly realized that it was for the best. While sequestered at the Embassy, he was surprised to run into an old friend of his, Val Cooper. She was on a special assignment from S.H.I.E.L.D., the purpose of which she deemed classified. It was later disclosed that she was assisting in locating potential moles within Magneto’s government. There had been intel reports of a possible coup attempt which was to be lead by unnamed members of Magneto’s own cabinet. Val Cooper was there at Magneto’s request to help ferret out the traitors. There had been peace in Genosha for the better part of twenty years, and it was in everyone’s best interest that peace be maintained.
Alex watched helplessly as an army of mutates stormed the palace gates. Something, or someone had driven them into a frenzy. He was amazed at how unprepared the royal guard was. They seemed ineffective at defending the royal palace, and at the same time trying to keep innocent people from harm. At the same time, he seemed rather shocked that Magneto himself seemed well restrained. The Magneto that he knew and loathed would have made small work of the bandits. Deciding that he could no longer sit by idle, he sneaked away from the embassy and joined with the Royal Guard. He was used to this type of situation, and quickly found himself barking out commands, and to his surprise, people listened. In short order, the coup was suppressed, and the leaders arrested.
Recognizing Alex’ potential as a leader, Magneto offered him a teaching position within the fledgling Acolytes program, and to Alex’s surprise, he said yes. He has spent years instructing mutants and mutates alike on the use of their special skills along with tactics and planning. He is highly respected among the Royal Guard.
He and Val Cooper became very close following the failed coup, and eventually started dating. They were married and have a son Phillip (Surge) and foster daughter, Jacqueline Drake (Solstice), the daughter of the late Bobby Drake aka Iceman.
