Origin: Nichtcrawler is a mutant. He has always looked different. However his teleportation powers didn't emerge until puberty.

Distinguishing Marks: Nightcrawler has only 3 fingers (including an opposable thumb) on each hand, and only 2 toes, each longer than an ordinary human's, on each foot. Nightcrawler also has a prehensile tail about 3 1/2 feet long, which can carry his own weight. His body is almost entirely covered with a fine indigo-colored fur. Nightcrawler also has pointed ears and pronounced fang-like canine teeth.
Strength Level: Nightcrawler possesses at least the normal human strength of a man of his age, height, and build who engages in intensive regular exercise.
Known Superhuman Powers: Nightcrawler can teleport himself, his clothing and a certain amount of additional mass from one point to another almost instantaneously. He leaves behind smoke and the smell of burning brimstone, actually atmosphere from the unknown dimension through which he travels. Nightcrawler's infallible spatial awareness enables him to avoid teleporting into solid matter, which could cripple or kill him. As a result, he generally teleports only to places he can see or those he knows well. Through practice, Nightcrawler has increased the amount of mass he can teleport with him.
Nightcrawler's spine is more flexible than that of an ordinary human, allowing him to perform contortionist-like feats and spend much of his time in a semi-crouching position without damaging his posture. Due to the dark coloration of his fur, he can blend into deep shadows.

Next-X History: Nightcrawler spent a considerable amount of time debating his future after the disbanding of the X-men. Without the dual responsibilities of being both an X-man and a priest he wholeheartedly pursued a life with the clergy. However it was not to be. Upon finally completing his training for the priesthood Nightcrawler insisted he would only be ordained in his true form. The Catholic church wanted nothing to do with this and told him so. One priest even went as far as to comment that the church was only beginning to consider the possibility of women as clergy. As a mutant, did he really think they would consider him for the priesthood. Disillusioned with the Catholic church but still very much a religious man Kurt, turned to the Episcopal Church which already had a few less- visibly mutant priests. Since the Episcopal faith does not forbid marriage by its clergy, Amanda Sefton quietly resumed her relationship with Kurt and the two eventually married and at Kurt's request were assigned a parish near the spot in Germany where he was originally rescued. They have two children Daniel and Chastity and still live in that same area today.
