Personality: Even if her claims of godhood are
not to be believed, the Spider Queen is an ancient being of incredible
power. She has spent many years hiding in the tunnels under London,
not daring to go back to the surface, fearing for her life. She dreams
of her former greatness, and longs for the day when she can return
and rule the surface world.
Personal Interests: The Spider Queen had all
but given up on returning to the surface world, and was motivated
by an overwhelming hunger - a desire to feed both herself and her
spiders. Assuming that she has survived, and is no longer in hiding,
it remains to be seen what she will do.
History: Much of the Spider Queen's past is
still a mystery. She claims to be a goddess, who has lived on Earth
for many hundreds of years. If her story is to be believed, at some
point she made an enemy of the immortal mutant known as Apocalypse,
and fearing his retribution, she hid from him under the ground, living
in tunnels beneath Britain. What she did that earned Apocalypse's
enmity has not yet been revealed.
It would seem that the Spider Queen has been living beneath London
for a long time now, surviving by eating rats and any people unfortunate
enough to stray into her lair. Her life changed when a man named Richard
Reston accidentally found his way into her caverns. He convinced her
that he could be of use to her and she mutated him into the Arachnid,
sending him back to the surface to bring her victims to feed her hunger.
Reston was aware that Apocalypse was no longer alive, but did not
tell the Spider Queen while she gave him the power to pursue his vendetta
against people that had opposed him in the past.
When the costumed adventurer known as Spitfire fought the Spider Queen,
Reston's deception was exposed and the Queen made her way up to the
surface to feed. She took an entire tube train hostage intending to
eat the occupants, but was stopped by Spitfire and the psychic private
investigator Matthew Buckingham. The Spider Queen was electrocuted
and apparently crushed between two carriages, but no body was found
and it seems unlikely, given her power, that the Spider Queen is dead. |
